IELTS Speaking Test improvement within a week! Thank you Abu!

I am Polly from Hong Kong and moved to Toronto, Canada, four months ago. Although I started learning English in kindergarten, I didn’t speak or use it often in my hometown because we usually spoke Cantonese at work. When we don’t use a language for a long time, we can forget how to use it and become less fluent. Therefore, working in a country where English is the primary language presents a challenge for me.

I found a job in Canada; however, the job requires registration at a college, and one of the requirements is to have a score of 6.5 in each category of the IELTS test. I need to finish the test by December 31st. I have tried three times but still cannot achieve a good result (5.5 in speaking). I felt frustrated and upset, worried that my job would be compromised if I couldn't meet the deadline. My friend suggested I use Amazing Talker to find an English teacher to help.

To be honest, Abu was not my first teacher. I chose my first teacher randomly from the platform. However, my first teacher often got frustrated with me because I was not focused and kept making mistakes (I was exhausted after a whole day's work). Gradually, I became afraid of his lessons, feeling more nervous and losing confidence when speaking in English. As a result, I made no improvement after my first teacher.

By mid-December, I still struggled with speaking, and the deadline was approaching, so I decided to find another teacher. He taught me many skills required for the speaking test (I won’t share them because they are the most valuable part of the lesson 😂). He began each lesson with conversation and greetings instead of jumping directly into the mock test, which made me feel relaxed and comfortable when speaking in English. He took the time to point out my weaknesses and provided suitable solutions to tackle my challenges. He was patient, even when I kept making mistakes, and he encouraged me to learn positively, reminding me that I could do it. I truly appreciate his support.

I am happy to have Abu as my English teacher. One piece of bad news is that I can no longer have lessons with him because I received good news: I achieved my desired scores (6.5 in Speaking)!
